Overview
Attempting to open a file from an AFP mounted shared volume results in the following error message:
"Cannot open the document "volume:path:filename". You may not have permission or the document may be open already."
Attempting to save an open file to the shared volume results in a forced shutdown of the InDesign application and the following error:
"Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents."
Solution
InDesign always creates a temporary file upon file open. Given issue is caused by Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) application live scanning and locking the newly created temporary files. Once the temporary file is cleared by SEP, the document can be opened cleanly. Replacing SEP with Sophos AV product resolves the problem.
