Enabling Metadata Inheritance

Overview

This article provides the process to enable the metadata inheritance function for Xinet.

Information

The Enable Metadata Inheritance option, when enabled, will cause any file newly introduced to a volume (that has the same name and location as a previously deleted file) to inherit the original file's metadata. This option is useful for automating some workflows, but it is not appropriate for all cases. It will depend on your needs.

If the new file contains XMP data of its own, that metadata will be retained and replace any metadata already stored in the database for those fields. Take note that changing this setting will not trigger recreating the previews.

Process

To enable the metadata inheritance, please follow the process below:

1. On the nativeadmin, navigate to DATABASE > Admin > Settings.
   
   
   
   
2. Scroll down to the bottom and mark the Enable Metadata Inheritance checkbox.
3. Click on the Update button to save the changes.
